The most difficult thing to check once patch cords and adapters arrive is insertion loss. The specification book states 0.2dB, and it is not surprising that the field measurement was 0.6dB. The recipient does not need to be equipped with a complete set of equipment. A stable light source and an optical power meter can complete the spot test. The key is to unify the method.
First reset the reference line to zero
Before testing, use two known good short jumpers to connect the light source to the power meter and reset it to zero at the actual test wavelength. All subsequent readings are the difference from this reference line. If it is not reset to zero, the loss of the instrument and the test jumper itself will be included in the device under test. This is the primary reason for the high sampling data. It is recommended that only one instrument and one set of test lines be used in the same batch, and the dual-wavelength tests should be reset to zero respectively.
Judgment threshold and sampling ratio
- Single-mode jumpers are generally judged to be qualified according to 0.3dB. If it exceeds 0.5dB, first check that the end face is clean. If it is still out of tolerance, then suspect the ferrule alignment.
- Multi-mode jumpers are available in the 0.2dB to 0.3dB range, and it is recommended that OM3 components also record echoes.
- Adapter insertion loss is usually capped at 0.2dB, and sleeve wear after repeated plugging and unplugging will push up the reading.
- The random inspection ratio starts from 5% of the batch size, and can be reduced to 2% if it is stable for several consecutive batches; if any one exceeds the tolerance, double the retest, and if there is still a problem after the retest, the entire batch will be isolated.
The random test data must be reconciled with the link ledger
Qualifying a single point does not mean qualifying a link. Record the extracted value in the link ledger and compare it with the project budget: the margin of short-distance links between buildings is inherently small.100G optical fiber interconnection upgrade between buildings in a large data center in East ChinaIt is required that the loss of each terminal point be controllable. High-bandwidth scenario components such asLC-LC 10G multi-mode OM3 two-core jumper, insertion loss and return loss must be recorded at the same time, not just one number.
It is recommended that the random test table be fixed with four columns: actual tester, instrument number, test wavelength, and ambient temperature and humidity, so that the conditions can be reproduced in future disputes.
