Project background
The center carries government cloud and financial disaster recovery services. The original inter-building backbone is a 40G SR4 solution. Optical fiber resources are tight and high temperatures in summer cause batch errors. It needs to be upgraded to 100G single-mode and reserves 200G evolution conditions.
Needs and Challenges
- The distance between buildings is 1.8–6.2km, which exceeds multi-mode capabilities;
- The business is online 7×24, and only 15 minutes of single-link cutover per window is allowed;
- The switches are a mix of brands and have different module compatibility codes.
Implementation points
The backbone was replaced with a 100G QSFP28 LR4 single-mode optical module (10km), and the jumper was shortened with a 100G DAC cable on the cabinet side; the optical cable between buildings was terminated at a 12-port 24-core LC fully equipped with ODF, and each core was labeled; compatibility codes were written to Cisco and Huawei equipment respectively, and the spare link was tested for 72 hours before the official cutover.
Deliverables
- The backbone bandwidth is increased from 40G to 100G, the delay is reduced, and the bit errors are cleared;
- All 18 links are completed within the window, with zero service interruption;
- The single-port modification cost is about 35% lower than the channel solution;
- There have been no link-level faults reported for repair within one year of being online.
