Recently, EB-LINK has officially opened its non-stop companion running service to the outside world. This set of bypass ideas comes from the 100G optical fiber interconnection upgrade between buildings in a large data center in East China: first build new links in parallel, run them stably, and then move the business, leaving the online channel unchanged throughout the process. Why take the bypass?

The interruption red line on the business side of the center is extremely strict. If the old link is upgraded directly, any accident will cause service interruption. The team used the surplus fiber cores in the trunk pipeline to lay single-mode optical cables to both ends, completed the ends, and installed 100G single-mode modules. The new link was independently tested and the data was cleared before backflow was arranged. Parallel tasks such as laying cables, forming terminals, and adding modules do not occupy the production network for even one minute, and are all completed during the day.

Three actions for non-stop practice

  • Build first and then cut: test run the new link for 72 hours, collect optical power and bit error records;
  • Small-scale grayscale: first cut a non-critical business, observe a complete business day, and then cut in batches;
  • Old link hot backup: retained for two weeks after cutover and can be rolled back at any time;
  • When the official flow is reversed, it will be carried out item by item according to the ledger, and the checker will read out the numbers one by one for confirmation.

Precipitation is a standard process

With this method, 18 links were completed within their respective windows without any interruption to the business, and similar interruptions did not occur again after the transformation. This process has now been incorporated intoData center high-speed interconnection solutionThe delivery link covers the expansion scenarios of 40G to 100G and multi-rate mixed distribution. The reverse flow of all 18 links was completed within the planned time, and no abnormalities were found in the business-side monitoring curves.
