At the end of June, EB-LINK completed the link margin step-by-step retest and phased capacity expansion plan for a county surveillance network transformation project. The original plan was to lay new optical cables across the entire line. After recalculation, most sections only needed to replace modules and pairing methods.

Recalculate first and then talk about expansion

This trunk line was built about six years ago, and most sections are more than ten to thirty kilometers long. The newly added points have squeezed the remaining bandwidth. The survey team first called up the acceptance ledger, and then used OTDR to re-measure the current loss of each section to eliminate the reading deviation caused by end surface contamination and obtain the actual remaining margin of each section: seven of the twelve sections were still higher than 5 dB, and only three sections fell below 3 dB.

Half of the fiber cores are put aside for use.

The trunk optical cable has 24 cores. Historically, only nine cores have been used. A large number of spare cores have never been terminated in the splice box. After taking inventory and opening the boxes one by one, the unused cores were straightened out, terminated and tested for light. Finally, the eight cores were included in the available list, eliminating the need to lay a new section of optical cable in the shaft section.

  • Check the ledger first and then open the box. Cores that are not recorded in the ledger will be treated as non-existent.
  • Spare cores must be terminated, tested, and labeled before they can be counted into the available capacity.
  • Take two wavelength readings in a long section to confirm the attenuation trend.

The plan is divided into three phases

Combining the margin and fiber core conditions, the staging is as follows: first change the double fiber in the point return section to single fiber to free up the number of trunk cores, and then use the Gigabit single fiber transceiverGigabit single mode single fiber one optical one electrical fiber optic transceiverShip the goods according to the pair; then change the long-distance gear for the three segments with insufficient margin and supplement the attenuation processing; only add aggregation links next year when the bandwidth is still insufficient. At present, the first batch of cutover lists has been handed over to the construction company. In the subsequent paragraphs, EB-LINK technical support will continue to verify the remaining balance. If you need to troubleshoot, please call 0755-83179002.
