Recently, the EB-LINK optical passive production line has completed the specification expansion of LC-LC 10G multi-mode dual-core jumpers. Both OM3 and OM4 have completed the commonly used lengths of 1, 3, 5, 10, and 20 meters, and have been added to the spot pool to shorten the waiting period for projects in data centers and computer rooms.
What short-range scenarios are covered by the new specifications?
This batchLC-LC 10G multi-mode OM3 two-core jumperIt mainly serves the short-distance backbone in the service cabinet and from the head cabinet to the switch, and is used with 10G, 40G, and 100G parallel optical modules. OM3 supports 10G to about 300 meters and 40G to about 125 meters. OM4 extends 10G to about 400 meters, and the short-distance link budget is more relaxed.
For computer rooms that already use OM4 backbones, short-distance 100G SR4 can also work stably within a hundred meters with OM4 jumpers. The newly added 3-meter and 5-meter gears fit the distance from the headboard to the switch, reducing fiber waste.
How to match multi-mode levels with speed
When choosing a level, it is recommended to look at the module speed first, and then the actual distance. The following is the experience value of common combinations.
- 10G SR links preferentially use OM3 or OM4, and avoid using OM1 and OM2.
- OM4 is recommended for 40G and 100G parallel ports, and the effective mode bandwidth is higher.
- Insertion loss is estimated to be about 0.5dB for each pair of connectors, and there is generally a margin for short distances.

Inspection and supporting list included with the goods
Each batch of jumpers is tested for insertion loss and polarity one by one before shipment, and the end faces are equipped with dust caps. EB-LINK technical support can provide length and core number recommendations based on the port table, reducing on-site cutting and temporary wiring changes.
