Starting this month, EB-LINK has adjusted the factory inspection process for PoE power supply transceivers. In addition to the regular power-on test, it has added full-load temperature rise and continuous output actual measurements. Each unit will be shipped after passing the test, focusing on covering the most easily overlooked working conditions such as sealed installation in weak current boxes.

Why add this test?

The internal temperature of the equipment on the pole side and in the box can exceed 50°C in summer, and the power supply module will derate its output at high temperatures. No problem can be seen if the power is turned on for a short period of time. It often takes until night when the infrared light is fully turned on and the load is increased before the port is turned off and the device is restarted. The new process allows the prototype to run at full load for a long time in a sealed fixture, record the changes in housing temperature and port output, confirm that the derating range is within the allowable range, and write the output fluctuations during continuous operation into the record.

How to use inspection records

  • Each unit is attached with a test number, marked with the measured output power and temperature rise value, and will be randomly checked and compared according to the number during acceptance.
  • If an abnormality occurs in individual ports after arrival, the batch can be located based on the serial number, shortening the judgment time.
  • During repair, the actual measured value and the fault phenomenon are provided together, making it easier to lock the repair direction.
  • Batch projects can be exported and summarized by number, which can be used to determine whether a certain point belongs to the same batch of working conditions.

Practical implications for the project

With the actual measured data, the power budget can be listed directly according to the full load value during the design stage. There is no need to leave an excessive safety factor for uncertain items, and the overall machine capacity can be arranged more compactly.
