Recently, EB-LINK has updated the optical module factory test documents: in addition to the conventional items such as receiving and receiving optical power and wavelength, two readings of working power supply power consumption and normal temperature shell temperature have been added, and each unit is shipped with the order. The update stems from the actual needs of project side production scheduling and cabinet planning.
Which two items were added to the record?
One is the converted power consumption of the module's power supply current in the full-load transceiver state, marked to the milliwatt level; the other is the case temperature reading at the specified ambient temperature, which is mutually verified with the value reported by the module DDM. The two pieces of data correspond to the serial number one-to-one, and the test batch and fixture number are written together in the record, which can be traced back to the specific work station.
Why do you need to know the power consumption and case temperature in advance?
- The cabinet power supply budget is accumulated by port, and the module power consumption is a section that can be calculated in advance. There is no need to wait for the machine to be re-tested;
- The shell temperature reflects the actual working conditions of the module in the air duct, and the port distribution and cable management methods can be adjusted accordingly during high-density deployment;
- During production scheduling, equipment of the same grade is assigned to different cabinets based on readings to disperse hot spots and reduce long-term high fan rotation.
Usefulness for green network operation and maintenance
Cost reduction and efficiency improvement focus on power consumption, which means that every watt of electricity is used for business: after readings are taken first, power supply expansion assessment, fan strategy adjustment and cabinet layout optimization will all have a basis, and ineffective heat dissipation modifications will be avoided. For access scenarios with high replacement frequency, the reading differences of different batches can also be compared to detect abnormalities in advance.
