Recently, EB-LINK has incorporated the discharge calibration and terminal loss retest of the fusion splicer into the shipping process of optical passive equipment. A new page of calibration records has been added to the accompanying documents, marking the arc intensity level, discharge time and test melting average value, which can be applied directly when the construction team enters the site.
Why do we need to do a test melting before leaving the factory?
The geometric tolerance of the ends of pigtails and jumpers and the diameter of the coating layer will directly affect the feed amount and melting form during welding. The splicing loss of the same machine at the factory default setting for G.652D bare fibers from different manufacturers can differ by more than 0.02 dB. When found on site, the fiber core and man-hours are wasted. Using the shipped sample to test melting in advance is equivalent to locking the parameters in a reproducible range. Only confirmation is done on site instead of testing all the way.
What items are written in the calibration record?
- The correction value of the arc intensity relative to the standard gear is recorded according to the gear number. The common range is between ±3 gears.
- The discharge time of pre-melting and main melting is measured in seconds. Two gears, 6 s and 8 s, are commonly found on site.
- For the number of test fuse cores and the average loss, single-mode generally requires the average to be controlled within 0.03 dB and the single point not to exceed 0.05 dB.
- The accumulated discharge times and cleaning methods of the electrode will prompt the electrode to be replaced when it reaches the experience threshold.
How to use this record on site
The construction party sets the machine according to the record, melts 2 to 3 cores first to confirm that the reading is close to the record, and then enters the batch end. In high-altitude, low-temperature or dusty environments, it is necessary to increase the discharge intensity by 1 to 2 levels according to the machine's environmental table. This step cannot be omitted. For supporting equipment, please refer toLC-LC single mode dual core jumper and SC-SC single mode single core jumper, this batch of shipments all come with the same record format.
