Since last month, EB-LINK has added individual return loss tests and end-face microsampling inspections to the factory inspection of adapters, and only qualified batches will be labeled and put into stock. The background comes from after-sales statistics: On-site troubleshooting found that some high insertion losses were not a jumper problem, but a failure of the adapter itself.

Three new inspections have been added to the inspection process

  • Return loss test one by one: UPC shall be judged as no less than 50dB, APC shall be no less than 60dB, and unqualified products shall be isolated separately;
  • End face microscopy inspection: observe whether there are chipping, scratches and assembly burrs on the end face of the ceramic sleeve;
  • Sampling inspection of sleeve diameter and insertion and extraction force: to evaluate alignment accuracy and life consistency;
  • Adapters with return losses close to the lower limit are treated as downgrades and should not be mixed with regular products.

The three inspections are completed on the same assembly line, and the single-piece cycle time is lengthened. However, the adapter occupies fewer inspection stations, and the delivery time will not be affected after the expansion of positions.

Why focus on return loss?

Insertion loss anomalies are easily discovered on site, while return loss failure is much more hidden: reflected light raises the reception noise floor, and the link appears to be functional, but occasional bit errors and current interruptions occur. This process upgrade takes return loss as the primary indicator for adapter judgment. The entire batch of unqualified products will be re-inspected, and those with sleeve size deviations will be directly scrapped. Only those with contaminated end faces will be processed separately after cleaning and re-inspection. They will no longer be single-picked and mixed into qualified batches for shipment.

The batch code comes with the goods

The new batch adapter has a batch code affixed on the outer box and material box. The factory inspection record of the batch can be checked back with the number; it is matched withLC-SC single mode dual core jumperWhen shipping in the same batch, the warehouse checks the consistency of the batches and grinding patterns at both ends. The parameter list and inspection instructions of the product column on the site have been updated simultaneously.
