Recently, EB-LINK has upgraded the factory inspection process of optical passive components. In addition to the original insertion loss test, it has added interference pattern and 3D geometry inspection to the connector end face to prevent micron-level problems before shipment.

Why measure end face geometry?

Qualified insertion loss does not mean that there is no problem with the end face. The three items of curvature radius, vertex offset and grinding angle determine whether the two optical fibers are in good contact, and also directly affect the return loss. Micron-level deviations cannot be seen with the naked eye or an ordinary magnifying glass, and interference detection can quantify them into data.

For links that are sensitive to high reflections, even if the geometrically unqualified end face can be passed through now, it will cause problems due to bit errors or temperature drift in the long term, so it is worth testing one more layer at the factory stage. Especially in high-density distribution frames, where dozens or hundreds of end faces are inspected at the same time, geometric data can reveal common hidden dangers caused by grinding drift in a certain batch in advance.

What indicators are covered by the new detection?

  • Whether the curvature radius and vertex offset fall within the grinding specification range.
  • Whether the APC bevel angle is stable to prevent fluctuations in return loss.
  • Grading of end surface scratches and dirt under enlarged view.

This process coversSingle mode single core armored patch cordUnlike conventional two-core jumpers, products that are judged to be abnormal are removed from the assembly section and do not enter the packaging process to avoid discovering problems after leaving the factory.

What customers can get

The accompanying report supplements the end face determination conclusion in addition to insertion loss, making it easier to compare items during project acceptance. For scenarios that are sensitive to reflections such as CATV and single-fiber wavelength division, this layer of detection is more practical.

EB-LINK stated that it will continue to refine the inspection standards according to port types. If you need to know the sample data, please call us for consultation.
