Reviewing the inter-building 100G upgrade project of a large data center in East China, the most impressive thing was not the module replacement, but the ODF termination: the inter-building optical cable was routed core by core to a 12-port 24-core LC fully equipped distribution frame. The quality of the termination directly determines the base of the link loss. Here are some experiences compiled for comparison in similar construction projects. Terminal defects are often not exposed on the first day

During the initial joint debugging, the measured loss of one core was about 2dB higher than that of similar products. At that time, it barely met the standard and was put online first. After subsequent retests, it was discovered that the pigtail was bent by the tie at the exit of the rack, approaching the bending radius limit. The lesson is: if you complete the retest within a week, you must do it. Passing the first test does not mean stability.

Lock quality in four actions

  • Coiled fiber: The remaining length of the pigtail should be loosely wound along the winding wheel in the frame, and hard binding is prohibited;
  • Dust-proof: Wear a cap as soon as it is finished, and remove and replenish it once during construction;
  • Label: Double-head labeling on the rack side and jumper side, and the codes are arranged according to the building floor;
  • Retest: record the transmitting and receiving luminous power per core and archive it, without spot testing.

Don't waste money on jumpers

In this project, the cabinet side jumpers are all from the same batch.LC-LC single mode dual core jumper. The insertion loss consistency of stock patch cords from various sources is poor, and the margin will be wasted on the 100G link. Passive components are the least conspicuous part of the project but the most important to have fixed supply and batch records. EB-LINK recommends writing them into the qualified supplier list.
