Old industrial computer software is inseparable from the serial port, but new motherboards only have PCIe slots. This article gives three transformation routes: counting slots first, replacing PCI with PCIe cards with the same function, and multi-port cards to improve density, and explains the trade-offs of USB to serial port.

Explain clearly the differences between RS232, RS485, and RS422 from the three dimensions of level form, transmission distance, and networking method, and provide methods for selecting serial port cards based on bus topology to avoid the first selection pit in industrial computer serial port transformation.

UPS monitoring, switch debugging and access to old equipment in the computer room are still inseparable from serial ports and USB. This article sorts out the typical scenarios that require expansion, the port number and electrical standard selection of the serial port card, as well as the power intake and wire length constraints of USB expansion.

The prerequisite for a four-port card to connect to multiple NVMe disks is that the channels are split correctly. Hot swapping depends on the backplane and disk slot design. This article explains clearly the BIOS split settings, the real boundaries of hot swapping, and the safe approach to multi-disk access.

NVMe disks on expansion cards are more sensitive to temperature rise than individual slots. This article gives the meaning of the two temperature lines of 70°C and 85°C, the three variables of multi-port card heat dissipation, and ways to reduce heat accumulation in model design.

From the three perspectives of logical organization, fault tolerance, and selection boundaries, this article explains the differences between array cards and transparent transmission expansion cards, provides a quick calculation method for RAID-level capacity costs, and provides implementation suggestions for mixed M.2 and SATA scenarios.

M.2 hard drives look similar but are not recognized. It is probably because the protocol or interface bits are wrongly selected. This article explains the difference between NVMe and SATA, how to read the key bit and length number, and three pieces of information that must be checked before choosing an expansion card.

It disassembles the corresponding relationship between PCIe version, channel number and theoretical bandwidth, explains the difference between the electrical channel and physical length of the slot, and provides specific methods for matching dual-port or four-port M.2 expansion cards according to channel gears.

Software-defined storage and cache acceleration often encounter the problem of insufficient M.2 slots on the motherboard, and PCIe expansion cards are the mainstream solution. This article explains the three-step selection process based on splitting capability confirmation, card type selection based on the number of disks, heat dissipation and marking, to help readers avoid compatibility pitfalls.

Mixing management, live migration, and storage traffic on the same link is a common source of cluster failures. This article gives the VLAN division of four types of traffic, port allocation under limited network cards, and aggregation fault tolerance details, which is suitable for reference for small and medium-sized virtualization clusters.
