High-definition monitoring points are a classic application scenario for 100M/1000M optical modules. Whether the existing optical fiber network can smoothly carry the newly added high-definition cameras depends on whether the bandwidth estimation and link binning on the point backhaul side are reasonable.
Calculate the traffic first: How many channels can 100M carry?
The single-channel bit rate of mainstream 4-megapixel cameras is about 6-8Mbps. Calculated based on the 70% safety level of a 100M link, a point with 8-10 channels is already the upper limit. When there are more than 10 channels or a mix of 8 million pixel cameras, the backhaul should be configured as gigabit, and bandwidth should be reserved for voice intercom and alarm linkage. 100M links are most likely to be saturated when the bit rate is increased or when uploading is concentrated at night. The scene often shows frame drops and blurry screens. In this case, check the bandwidth level first instead of rushing to change the camera.
Distance binning determines single-mode and multi-mode
- Gigabit multi-mode modules can be used to interconnect the building and the nearby campus, and the cost of OM3 jumpers is lower
- The kilometer-level link from the roadside dome chassis to the branch center is generally selectedSFP Gigabit single mode dual fiber 10KM optical module
- For the 20-40KM longitudinal series section along the highway, it is more reliable to upgrade to 2.5G single-mode modules
Speed up the aggregation layer to avoid convergence bottlenecks
When multiple points are gathered in a township or branch center, the downlink is already Gigabit, and the uplink must be amplified simultaneously. Before opening a point link, it is recommended to record the received light power one by one as a baseline, and leave a margin against the link budget. When flash interruptions or packet loss occur in the future, DDM readings can be used to quickly distinguish between module aging and dirty optical paths.
