Whether the machine vision station should have 10 Gigabit capacity or not should not be decided based on feeling. Replace the pixels, frame rate and encoding format with the number of link bytes, and then compare the actual capabilities of the network card and optical port to determine whether Gigabit or 10 Gigabit is a verifiable basis, and there is no need to invest in the budget prematurely.

Do a conversion first and then draw a conclusion

Taking a monochrome image as an example, the bandwidth is approximately equal to the number of pixels multiplied by the frame rate, multiplied by the number of bytes per pixel and the protocol overhead. Five million pixels @ 24 fps requires approximately 1.2 Gbps of payload, which is already beyond the steady-state throughput of a Gigabit network card; twelve million pixels @ 15 fps requires more than 2 Gbps, leaving no room for Gigabit ports. It is recommended to calculate based on the peak frame rate rather than the average frame rate, and leave a 30% margin for the link to avoid queuing frame loss due to trigger jitter.

The role of large frame length and jumbo frame

By raising the MTU from 1500 to 9000, a single packet carries more valid data, and the number of packet headers and interruptions is significantly reduced.
Both the capture end and the camera must be set at the same time. If one end is enlarged and the other end is not changed, it will be fragmented and retransmitted.
If Jumbo Frame is turned on and it still runs unsatisfactory, it means that it really needs to be upgraded to a 10G link.

Electrical ports and optical ports are divided according to distance
