The link is at full power during the day and occasionally disconnects at night, but the connector is not loose after checking. This phenomenon is not uncommon during maintenance of pole boxes and exterior wall points, and many of the causes point to rodent infestation. Follow three steps for troubleshooting. There is no need to replace the entire cable section as soon as it comes up.
Step one: look at the traces
First, check the surrounding environment of the point: whether there is a rat track at the pole base, whether there is feces in the pole box, whether there are light-colored bite spots on the outer sheath of the optical cable, and whether there are tooth marks on the sheathing tube. If you find any of them, put that paragraph on the list for rectification first, don't wait until the next time the link is broken.
Step 2: Actual measurement of segments and opening of the box for verification
Confirm on the monitoring side which channel image is interrupted, and narrow down to the specific fiber segment by comparing the ODF port table. When there is an OTDR, focus on observing the location of the reflection event. The rat bite breaking point often appears in the section from the pole box to the entrance of the hole. If there is no OTDR, first measure the optical power at both the transmitting and receiving ends. If the attenuation is more than 3 dB more than the baseline value, this section is worth opening the box.
It is common to see half-broken pigtails when opening the rod box: the sheath is bitten by rings, and the fiber core is only connected to a coating layer, which switches on and off under gravity. Cut off the damaged section and re-cold-join or weld it. At the same time, check whether the inlet is blocked. The holes that are not blocked should be filled with rat netting and fireproof mud.
Step Three: Replacement and Protection Upgrade
It is recommended to replace the entire end of the pole position with recurrence.Single mode single core armored patch cord, add metal hose to the exposed section, and straighten out the wiring in the box to avoid hanging. In a certain city public security bureauSafe City Video Surveillance Optical Fiber Transmission Phase IIIAccording to the maintenance records, the recurrence rate of peripheral points has dropped significantly after completing similar upgrades. EB-LINK technical support recommends that the inspection cycle be adjusted seasonally, once a month during periods of high rodent damage and once a quarter during normal times, and record the optical power baseline value each time.
After completing the three steps, don't forget to update the rectification points into the inspection list. Rat pests are very seasonal and will often come back to the same location.
