Many cabling projects get stuck at the last step: the link is working, but the data cannot be maintained. Missing pages in the test report, inconsistency between the as-built drawings and the site, and lack of closed-loop records of rectifications may all be grounds for rejection. This article compiles a list of materials that can be directly compared and the key points of on-site sampling. It is recommended to file them here before starting construction.

Five types of information are indispensable

  • As-built drawing: routing, cable numbers, and ODF port assignments are consistent with those on site
  • Coil fiber and port correspondence table: fiber core sequence, color spectrum, A/B end pointing
  • Welding records: core-by-core loss values and fusion splicer test screenshots
  • Link insertion loss bidirectional test report: indicate instrument model and calibration date
  • Product certificate and factory inspection records, such asLC-LC single mode dual core jumperIndividual test values of

How to do random testing

Single-mode links are tested in dual windows and bidirectionally at 1310 and 1550nm, and multi-mode links are tested at 850 and 1300nm. The criterion for judgment is the loss budget: after the nominal cable, welding point, and connector losses are added up one by one, it is recommended to leave a 3dB design margin. If the loss exceeds the budget, it will be deemed unqualified. If possible, add a section of the OTDR curve to locate the high-loss event point at a specific joint or bend, so that rectification can be targeted.

Rectification must be closed loop

Issue a rectification order for the link that exceeds the standard: replace inferior jumpers, redo the super-bend section, retest and keep it on file. If there are still doubts about the re-test, put it on the final work list, clearly indicate the responsible party and the completion deadline, and avoid verbal promises to accept the work first and then deal with it - most of the later wrangling is due to the lack of written evidence in this step.
