If labels are not uniformly coded, the all-optical network in a 100,000-square-meter campus will become a mess in two years. Both GB 50311 and TIA-606 require traceability of wiring markings. This article provides a set of three-stage coding templates and labeling process points that can be directly applied, and newcomers can also follow them.
Three-stage coding: location-chassis-port
- Location segment: building-floor-room number, such as 3F-DZ02
- Chassis segment: ODF or rack is numbered with two letters, such as OD01
- Port segment: Port and fiber core are numbered sequentially, A/B ends refer to each other in pairs
- Both ends of the same jumper are marked with directions, such as OD01-12→SW03-24
Label location and material
Flag-shaped labels should be affixed 2 to 5cm away from the connector to avoid stress bending of the sheath; wrap-around labels must not strangle the outer sheath; machine-printed labels are recommended, as handwriting is easy to fade and difficult to read. The main cable introduction section is posted on both sides of the manhole and the machine room, indicating the cable number and fiber core direction;14-slot box transceiver rackWhen it comes to rack-mounted equipment, each slot must be coded synchronously, and the rack record must be consistent with the actual plug-in and pull-out direction, so that the wrong slot will not be plugged in during future operation and maintenance.
Coding should be linked to data
- Weave first and then distribute: Pre-mark empty ports in place before laying out cables to avoid temporary naming on site
- The physical object, as-built drawing, and port table are consistent. If one is missing, the defective item will be accepted.
- Write back the port table on the day of change. It is recommended to attach the responsible person and date column.
There is no absolute right or wrong in the coding system. The key is that the whole project is unified and newcomers three years later can understand it.
