Rather than replacing the entire machine, it is better to make good use of SFP Gigabit electrical port modules and fiber optic transceivers to make use of the idle slots of existing equipment.

Electrical port module: convert SFP slot into RJ45

Four points to note when using combinations

• The transceiver and module must have the same single-mode/multi-mode and distance specifications. Mixing and matching will not work.
• Combo ports and independent SFP slots are usually mutually exclusive. Please confirm the effective port before configuring.
• The transmission distance of the electrical port is limited, and it is recommended to use optical fiber for links exceeding tens of meters.
• The centralized power supply of the rack is only suitable for the computer room, and the outdoor box still uses an independent power supply.

The value of this type of transformation is to extend the life of existing equipment and compress the current budget. However, it is necessary to review the total bandwidth of the aggregation point and the lightning protection and grounding of the electrical port links. After the transformation is completed, the port ledger and spare parts library are updated simultaneously. The backbone and key links should not stay in the supplementary state for a long time.
