When there are many projects, the spare parts cabinet becomes full: a batch of models with different speeds, different interfaces, and different power supplies are prepared, and the sluggishness and management costs increase together. The core of spare parts streamlining is not to have fewer spare parts, but to converge the models into several types that can be used interchangeably, so that each spare part has multiple places to go.
List the existing network models into a convergence table
First, take an inventory of the port types, speed ranges and power supply specifications of the equipment in use, and then compare the fault records in the past year and sort them by replacement frequency. Most on-site faults in campus and factory networks are concentrated in three categories: transceivers, optical modules and jumpers. These three categories are the focus of convergence; models with low replacement frequency should be prepared individually according to the project, and should not be included in the permanent list to avoid lying in the cabinet for a long time.
Unify standards for interfaces and power supply first
- The jumpers are mainly LC interfaces, and the existing SC ports are marked separately, and the two end faces are stored in separate compartments to avoid mixed insertion and rework;
- Gather scattered box transceivers as much as possible14-slot box transceiver rack, reducing the types of bulk power adapters and the number of wiring boards, centralized power supply and better calculation of margins;
- The modules are mainly single-mode common files, such asSFP+ 10G single-mode dual-fiber 10km optical moduleIt can cover most links between buildings and computer rooms, and long distance needs to be separately calculated as edge files.
Modules are universal by writing code, and the water level is determined by importance.
Switches of different brands have identification code requirements for modules. Modules with the same specifications can be pooled and used after being coded separately according to brand, and the types of spare parts can be reduced by one level. The quantity is stratified according to the importance of the office points: the core computer room is equipped with a complete set, and the end points are only equipped with two or three commonly used models. All EB-LINK optical modules support free coding according to mainstream brands. When placing an order, you can make a note that the modules will be boxed and labeled according to the code type, and the goods will be directly put into the corresponding pool upon arrival.
After the convergence is completed, it is recommended to review the list every quarter against changes in the existing network to prevent new models from quietly returning, so that the spare parts ledger can be truly thinned.
