To upgrade a Gigabit link to 10 Gigabit, replacing the module is only the last step. Whether it can be upgraded and which sections are upgraded first depends on the first three accounts: optical path margin, dispersion and port matching. After all three transactions have been made, let's talk about placing an order.
The margin account looks at the power budget but not the distance label.
The nominal distance of the 10G module is the same as that of Gigabit, but the transmit and receive parameters are tighter, and the available total loss window is narrowed. It is necessary to recalculate section by section according to the new module specification. Sections with a closing margin of less than 3 dB are directly crossed out; a common pitfall is that the actual measurement of a ten-kilometer section has already been stretched to 12 or 13 kilometers. toSFP+ 10G single-mode dual-fiber 10km optical moduleTake this type of gear as an example. If the budget is obviously insufficient, we should first deal with welding and joint loss, and then consider changing to a long-distance model.
Dispersion accounting begins to take effect above 10 Gigabit
Gigabit is not sensitive to chromatic dispersion. As the speed increases, pulse broadening begins to affect the decision. There is usually no need to worry about the 1310 window within ten kilometers; when it reaches the 10G segment of tens of kilometers, which is close to the boundary of common models, priority should be given to the 1550 window or reducing the single-fiber rate, rather than using Gigabit long-distance modules to directly top 10G.
The port account is connected to jumpers, racks and power consumption
- Check the switch side SFP+ port and module compatibility list before purchasing.
- Multi-rate ports need to be forced to 10 Gigabit, do not rely on auto-negotiation
- When upgrading cards in box-type equipment, pay attention to the rack slot and the power consumption of the whole machine.
- One or two spare parts are prepared according to each section, and the circulation of repairs is continuous.
Once the three accounts have been settled and then started, the cutover can be advanced section by section; the sections with critical margins will be moved to the next issue. EB-LINK technical support can verify each segment of data and give suggestions for speed-up gears. Tel: 0755-83179002.
