Station communication transformation often reaches a fork in the road: whether to continue to add optical fiber to the scattered points at the end, or to use wireless backhaul. The two routes are not substitutes, and dividing labor by business type is usually less expensive and requires less rework than one-size-fits-all.

Wireless is suitable for complementing low-rate auxiliary points

Points such as weather stations, irradiators, fences and access control, and environmental sensors have small traffic and scattered locations. They often have to cross roads or pipeline trenches, and the cost of excavation and cable laying is high. This type of auxiliary monitoring can reduce civil construction by using wireless filling. The disadvantage is that towers, brackets and metal roofs will block it, and the link margin changes with the seasons and weather. It requires on-site measurement before determining the location. Do not judge the link based on the straight-line distance on the plan map.

Backbone and video services still use optical fiber

The power collection and monitoring backbone, video surveillance and production services from the box-type transformer to the booster station are sensitive to bandwidth and stability. Moreover, the electromagnetic environment near the booster station is complex, and optical fiber is passive and not affected by ground potential differences, so it is still a priority. Make an appointment with three things before starting a hybrid network

  • Wireless and optical fiber links are written into the same numbered ledger, so that fault identification can be clearly explained at a glance.
  • Separate evaluation of power supply and lightning protection: The power supply and grounding of wireless towers cannot be carried out in cabinets.
  • Production control signals are not transmitted across wireless, and wireless is only responsible for auxiliary monitoring and image preview.
