Station communication warnings during the thunderstorm season mainly appear during the first heavy rain after the rain. Most interruptions are not caused by lightning interrupting the fiber core, but by lightning current intruding into the equipment along metal components, overhead hanging wires or the power supply side, damaging the ports and power supply. Prevention and control should be carried out in three stages: diversion, end-to-end and recovery.

The next paragraph determines most of the risk

The section where the overhead optical cable enters the box-type transformer or communication cabinet is most susceptible to stress and is the easiest to introduce induced current. Before entering the wall, change it to a non-metallic or armored structure with reliable grounding.Single-mode double-core armored jumper, anti-mouse jumper, dedicated jumper for Internet cafes, pigtailFor end transition, the metal reinforcement core and armor layer are grounded at a single point at the line entry point, and the remaining positions are kept insulated to avoid a loop formed by grounding the upper and lower ends. Keep the diameter of the disk inside the cabinet and do not let the jumper press on the seam of the cabinet door.

The cabinet side separates the power supply and signal for protection

  • Install a surge protector on the power supply side of the communication cabinet and check the ground resistance. Test it once before the rainy season.
  • 485 and contact signals are optically isolated before entering the cabinet, and the long copper cable section is changed to optical fiber.
  • The racks are installed in a centralized manner and power is collected uniformly to reduce loose wires in the cabinet;14-slot box transceiver rackConvenient to see the lights road by road.
  • Wear dust caps on idle ports and unused fiber cores. Condensation on the end face during wet seasons will increase insertion loss.

Recovery sequence after rain

Measure the light receiving power first and then change the equipment. Skipping photometry often misjudges end-face contamination as module damage. During recovery, record the optical power baseline before and after the lightning strike by link, and links with deviations exceeding 1dB will be included in the review; the single-fiber model to be replaced must be in A/B pair, and the light will not turn on if the wavelength is reversed. After the rainy season, put damp parts on the inspection list and compare them with the ledger to detect deterioration in advance.
