In a scenario where two switches are combined into one using one line, DAC is a common choice. However, once the stacking port bandwidth, line length, and master-slave logic are not aligned, there will be situations where the link can be connected but the switching is abnormal.

The stacking bandwidth can accommodate the service port

The total bandwidth of the stacking link is generally not less than the aggregation capacity of the device's uplink port, otherwise the bottleneck starts from the interconnection line. 40G stacking port configuration40G DAC high speed cable, 10 Gigabit stacking port configuration10G DAC high speed cableThis is a common corresponding method. If the port rate is written incorrectly, the target bandwidth will not be trained directly.

The length is taken according to the upper and lower positions of the same cabinet.

  • 1 m to 2 m is sufficient for the stacking line of two devices in the same cabinet. If the line is farther, it will only consume more attenuation margin.
  • Cross-cabinet stacking generally does not exceed 3 m. When walking on the top bridge, measure the actual path and then determine the length.
  • The stacking lines run through the cable manager on the same side and are not mixed with the business lines. They will not be dragged together when the machine is disassembled later.
  • When doing double-wire ring stacking, the two wires should be routed through the left and right cable organizers separately to prevent the same side from being pulled out at the same time.

Don't leave master-slave and switching to luck

Priorities and roles must be determined first for stacking or cross-device aggregation networking. Cables only address the physical layer. It is recommended to conduct two unplugging drills before going online: unplug the main stack line to see if the backup takes over, unplug a single member line to see if the bandwidth degradation is as expected, and confirm whether the switch software version has any restrictions on stack cable length. The results of the drill are recorded in the acceptance form, including which item was cleared, how long it took to take over, and whether there was any packet loss in the business.

The stacking line looks like a short line, responsible for the control plane and forwarding plane channels. EB-LINK technical support can check whether the stack port rate and line type match according to the port table during the planning stage. Tel: 0755-83179002.
