A considerable number of high-speed cable failures are not caused by the link itself, but by being hard-folded, strangled by cable ties, or pressed by cabinet doors when put on shelves. This article explains clearly the wire diameter, bending radius and cabinet positioning separately.

First look at how thick the line is

Passive copper cables use thicker wire diameters to suppress attenuation. 40G/100G40G DAC high speed cableThe outer quilt is often close to the thickness of a pen and has greater resilience when turning. AOC uses optical fiber inside, and the wire body is thin and soft, but it cannot be treated like an ordinary network cable. Its weak point is at both ends.

Experience value of bending radius

  • The diameter of copper cables is generally 5 to 10 times the outer diameter, and the larger value is used for static layout. It is recommended to leave a diameter of a palm in the corners of the cabinet.
  • AOC should be handled according to the custom of optical cables. The static bending radius should not be less than 30 mm. Do not fold it in half during construction.
  • The cable tie only fixes the wire body but not the connector. The root of the connector is the most prone to problems. You can use Velcro to bind it in sections.
  • Before closing the cabinet door and covering the blind panel, test the movable space in the maximum turning position.

How to get between the deep cabinet and the server area

It often takes a half-circle from the back of the server to the switch. Copper cables of more than two meters are wound from the back end to the cable management rack and then down. The path can easily exceed the available gear. Common practice referenceData center high-speed interconnection solutionCable routing principles: Prioritize vertical cable managers in the same cabinet, use the top bridge across cabinets and leave a coiled section at both ends, so that the cables will not be pulled straight when the equipment is pulled out.

Writing the bending radius into the shelf process card saves time rather than redoing the link afterwards. EB-LINK is configured with the number of turns according to the length of the order.
