When the indicator light and optical power both point to a single machine failure, replacing the single machine is the fastest way to recover. However, changing the wrong model, forgetting to label, or moving other links are also common secondary failures. It is worth following the standard procedure for replacement, so that minor faults will not turn into major problems.
Four preparations before taking action
- Check that the spare part has the same speed, single and dual fiber, same wavelength or TX/RX attributes as the original machine. Single fiber A and B ends cannot be mixed.
- Record the slot number of the faulty machine, the corresponding optical path and the remote device, and only move one device at a time to avoid expanding the impact.
- Prepare alcohol cotton, dust cap and label paper to prevent dust once the optical port is disassembled.
- Only cut off the power supply of the faulty machine and keep other equipment in the same rack running.
Five-step replacement operation
- First unplug the optical fiber jumper and put dust caps on both ends, then unplug the network cable and power supply.
- Remove the faulty machine and remember the installation direction and slot number.
- Install a new machine of the same model,Gigabit single mode dual fiber one optical one electrical fiber optic transceiver and Gigabit single mode single fiber one optical one electrical fiber optic transceiverThe appearance is similar, so be sure to read the nameplate clearly when picking up spare parts.
- Restore the connection in the order of power supply, network cable, and optical fiber, and avoid plugging and unplugging the optical port while the power is on.
- Attach a new label, indicate the link number and replacement date, and remove the old label.
Verification after power-on cannot be omitted
Compare the records before replacement to confirm that the status of the PWR, FX, TX, and ACT lights is consistent; ping more than twenty packets continuously across the link without packet loss; if possible, measure the received optical power. If the difference from the original value exceeds 2dB, go back and check the connector. The ledger is updated on the same day, and the faulty machine is labeled and returned to the factory for inspection. Do not dismantle it on the spot and lose the on-site status.
The entire set of actions is usually completed within fifteen minutes. The value of the standard is that you can find out the ins and outs of each piece of equipment the next time you troubleshoot. When the spare parts models are mixed and the dual fibers cannot be sorted, you can contact EB-LINK technical support based on the nameplate information to check the model and substitution relationship.
