The machine vision host is equipped with a 10 Gigabit network card, and the nominal name is 10 Gigabit. It is not uncommon for the machine to be dissatisfied when installed. The difference mainly comes from the main control chip, the bandwidth negotiated by the slot and the interrupt settings in the system. Checking these three items clearly before choosing can save a lot of detours.
The main control chip determines the driver maturity
Capture software's support for network card drivers varies greatly. Mainstream server-level chips have complete drivers on Windows and common Linux distributions, and are more stable with mature jumbo frames and multi-queue support.PCI-EX8 10 Gigabit single electrical port network card (Intel 82599 chip)Adapt to old industrial computers, new platforms can be consideredPCI-EX4 10 Gigabit single electrical port network card (Intel Intel X550 chip), if you have ample budget and need lower latency, you can look at the 25G dual optical port model.
Don't ignore slot bandwidth
- Confirm that the slot is actually negotiated to PCIe 3.0 x4 and above. If the bandwidth is lower than this, the 10G port will not be satisfied.
- For half-height baffles and low chassis, check the height of the network card in advance.
- For multi-card models, pay attention to bus sharing to prevent several cards from grabbing the same uplink.
- When the old platform only has PCIe 2.0 x4, the 10G port can reach up to about 8 Gbps. You need to judge whether it is enough based on this.
Interrupt aggregation and multiple queues
For continuous acquisition scenarios, it is recommended to enable interrupt aggregation, tie processing threads to independent cores, and set an appropriate ring buffer size. Otherwise, frames will be lost when the CPU usage is high. EB-LINK provides configuration suggestions for the collection host included with the product.
