Campus network expansion is often not due to the fact that the switches are not new enough, but because the links and wiring resources between buildings reach the upper limit first. Doing three things in order before renovating can avoid spending the budget on parts that do not affect the user experience, and save one stoppage during the holiday.

First test the link redundancy between buildings and then discuss the speed.

Measure the light intensity from each building to the central computer room direction by direction, and record the wavelength, distance and number of welding points. Generally, it is recommended to leave a margin of more than 3dB for a single-mode 10km module. When the actual measured margin is only 1dB, the splice point should be processed before upgrading to 10G, or the cross-campus section should be replaced withSFP+ 10G single-mode dual-fiber 10km optical moduleLeave a margin in this file, otherwise the upgrade will cause intermittent disconnection, which will be more difficult to detect than before.

The dormitory area is calculated based on the evening peak value.

In the teaching area, video and computer room teaching are concurrent during the day, and the peak time in the dormitory area is concentrated between 21 and 23 o'clock. Estimating the number of terminals in each building multiplied by the average occupancy of a single terminal, a dormitory building with 600 terminals generally requires 2 to 4 Gigabit ports to converge to a 10G uplink at night. The original weak current room equipment can be usedGigabit single mode dual fiber one optical one electrical fiber optic transceiverDo end patching instead of replacing the entire building. The construction window recommends building the two buildings with the most obvious congestion first, and then rolling out to other buildings after verifying the effect.

The number of cores and distribution frame ports should be enough at one time

  • The trunk should be reserved based on the existing number of cores plus 30% to avoid secondary cable opening and re-splicing;
  • The distribution frame ports are selected according to the number of buildings that will increase in the next 3 to 5 years. When installing, put the spare core on the tail cap;
  • The same set of numbered labels is attached to both ends of each link to record the wavelength and distance.

After completing these three steps, the expansion goal will be clearer. The overall structure of the park and teaching area can be referred toCampus network and FTTH integrated cabling solution, campus projects can contact EB-LINK 0755-83179002 for checklist.
