It is easy to monitor the construction of optical fiber transformation, but the operation and maintenance is messy. The root cause is often that the link ledger is not established at the beginning. The ledger is not a one-time data to be added when the project is completed, but a work ledger that needs to be checked back for subsequent troubleshooting and expansion. The elements and update rules must be determined in advance.

Four elements for each point

  • Point number: shares the same number with the pole number plate, optical cable tag, and machine room label, and runs throughout;
  • Fiber core number: Which core of which optical cable this point occupies, check against the splicing package record;
  • Port mapping: ODF ports, rack slots, and switch ports are aligned column by column, and fiber jumpers must leave traces when changing ports;
  • Device profile: model, serial number and power supply method of the near-end and drop-end devices.

Record the optical power baseline once when it is turned on

On the day of acceptance, use an optical power meter to record the optical power received at both ends of each core into the ledger as a reference for future troubleshooting. Try to use terminals and jumpers with stable specifications.LC-LC single mode dual core jumperAnd fix the adapter port to reduce reading drift caused by contact changes. Afterwards, retests will be compared with the baseline every quarter. If the deviation exceeds 1 dB, joints, bends and contamination will be investigated. There is no need to wait until there is a problem on the screen to discover link degradation.

The ledger needs to be updated to be useful

Changing it without recording it is the fastest way to invalidate the ledger. There are only three actions for updating: replace the faulty fiber, register the replaced core number and jumper; add a new point, open the page first and then release the line; unify the format and then hand over to avoid having to do it again for each new group of people. It is recommended that the baseline value be registered together with the equipment model and the test wavelength. Comparability can only be achieved when the equipment is changed and retested.
