The audio and video optical transceiver itself has a low failure rate, and most on-site problems occur in jumpers, polarity and testing. This pit avoidance list comes from high-frequency feedback from engineering services. Checking it before starting work can save a lot of rework time.
Don't take the jumper easily
Standard for use in computer roomsLC-LC single mode dual core jumperThat's fine, but sections in corridors that are exposed and at risk of trampling or rodent infestation need to be armored. Ordinary PVC-skinned jumpers may experience increased attenuation throughout the entire process if they are pressed once. Also pay attention to the cleaning of the ferrule: a dusty jumper can cause the link to lose a few tenths of dB more. There is a lot of dust during the peak construction season, so it is a good habit to wipe it with dust-free paper before installing the equipment.
Polarity crossover is the most common cause
The transmitting and receiving of optical transceivers are strictly relative: A-side TX is connected to B-side RX. If the connection is reversed, there will be no light at all. However, it often appears that one end is bright and the other is not bright, which can easily be misjudged as a bad device. The way to avoid this is to use a light source to illuminate the cores one by one after splicing and label both ends, and then install the equipment. If both ends are bright but the image is abnormal, check whether single fiber equipment with different wavelengths is mixed on the same fiber.
Three-step testing method, don't go directly to the big system
- Single unit self-loop: The transmitter is connected back to the local receiver to confirm that the basic functions are normal.
- Point-to-point: Optical power meter reads readings at both ends of the transmitter and light, and checks the margin against the link budget.
- Load verification: Connect to a real signal source and observe the lock indication, and the screen will run at full load for more than ten minutes.
