Opticalization of monitoring projects is not as simple as "replacing network cables with optical cables". The following three pitfalls will be encountered in almost every renovation project.
Pitfall 1: Difficulty in getting electricity at certain points
When there is no mains power near the tower and wall point, a common practice is to pull the power supply line farther away, which is both illegal and causes serious voltage drop. It is recommended to use Gigabit POE powered fiber optic transceivers on the computer room side: the data and power supply are connected to the home via the same cable, and the front end only requires standard 802.3af/at powered equipment; pay attention to calculating the POE power budget, and independent power supply modules are recommended for dual cameras and above.
Pitfall 2: Burning ports on the ground loop
When the front and rear ends are connected to different power distribution systems, the shielding layer of the network cable will form a ground circulation, which will burn out the transceiver and network port of the dome machine during thunderstorms. The fundamental solution is to allow the signal to be exposed and the equipment to draw power nearby: use single-mode transceivers to achieve electrical isolation; services that require common cables (485 control, audio) should use optical transceiver channels instead of copper wire crossings. Transformer substations and electrified railways must be fully optically isolated.
Pit 3: Broken cable on the roadside
- The remaining bends on the pole and the lower section of the underground conductors are not protected, and rat bites and construction excavations account for the highest proportions;
- Single-mode armored jumpers/pigtails should be used within 2 meters of the lead and passed through galvanized pipes;
- Make signposts at the demarcation points and take photos for filing. The efficiency of disputes and emergency repairs is completely different;
- Reserve the fiber core (20% recommended) and unify the ODF into ends, and add points later without breaking the path.
Summary
The focus of acceptance of optical fiber transformation is not on the failure rate, but on the failure rate after three years. The POE transceiver, optical transceiver isolation and armored leads are all in one, and the availability rate will naturally reach a higher level.
