The topology determines how many nodes will be affected by a broken link. One fault in the chain type can lead to a chain, the ring type can be rotated around, and the double ring can tolerate two faults at the same time. However, the requirements of the three types on the fiber core, the number of equipment and the amount of debugging are very different.
Fault tolerance increases step by step
Chain-type wiring saves materials. If the link is broken at any point at the end, all upstream nodes will be lost. It is suitable for workshops with few work stations and convenient inspections. Ring-type wiring has an extra section of backhaul optical fiber, turning the breakpoint into a detour. Double-ring or ring plus bypass can withstand two faults and is generally used in cross-factory connections and sites with long unattended mileage. Before choosing a topology, first write down the tolerable downtime. This is a direct constraint.
Depends on whether the business is centralized backhaul or horizontal collaboration

- There are coordinated control signals between workstations: allowing traffic to complete within the ring to avoid detouring around the core layer and increasing delay.
- Simultaneous interpretation of video, data and audio: use8-channel video + 1-channel reverse 485 data video optical transceiverCompress the number of independent links.
- The inspection data traffic is small but the frequency is high, and it can be hung on the end node without occupying the main bandwidth.
Use the number of cores and budget to infer the number of layers of the ring
How many more cores can be put in the pipeline often determines the upper limit of the topology more than the equipment budget. If the ring-type backhaul optical fiber is on the same pipe as the outbound fiber, the two faults are actually an accident. In important sections, the two sections should take different routes. A common practice in renovation projects is that the main trunk is formed into a ring first, and the branches are expanded along with the work stations.Smart factory industrial network transformation for an auto parts manufacturerIt is implemented in two steps.
In most workshops, a single ring plus a branch chain is enough. Only sections that cross factory areas or have extremely high cost of line shutdown are worth adding another ring.
