After a 10 Gigabit or 25G fiber optic network card is inserted into Windows Server, many people think that the device manager recognizes the network card and the installation is complete. In fact, only by selecting the correct driver, checking all settings, and cleaning out old drivers can the card be considered truly usable. This article sorts out the key points in order of installation.
Choosing the right driver: look at the bare driver and management suite separately
Intel chip platform packages are divided into two categories: complete packages with PROSet management panel and bare packages containing only drivers. It is recommended to use the bare driver in the server duty environment, which has fewer components and a small upgrade area. Just use the device manager to point to the.inf file during installation. Be sure to use signature packages on new versions of Windows Server, and do not turn off driver signature enforcement to save trouble.
After installation, you must check these three places
- Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" in power management to avoid resuming slow interrupt sessions after the fiber link goes into sleep.
- You should be able to see entries such as Jumbo Frame and Receive Buffers in the advanced properties of the network card. If not, it is usually because the driver version is wrong.
- Confirm that the connection speed is 10G or 25G full duplex. When the speed drops to a low level, first check the module and optical fiber before suspecting the driver.
Clear the old driver before replacing the card
When upgrading to replace an old card, the residual driver will cause a hidden network adapter to appear in the system, and the IP will be assigned to the invisible old interface. Use pnputil to enumerate and delete the old driver package, display and clean up hidden devices in the network connection view, and then install itPCI-EX4 10 Gigabit single electrical port network card (Intel X550 chip)Waiting for replacement model. Configurations with optical ports also need to check module matching, for exampleSFP+ 10G single-mode dual-fiber 10km optical moduleConsistent with the peer type.
After completing the three checks, the Windows side is ready. If you are not sure about the driver version, you can call EB-LINK technical support at 0755-83179002 and check the driver list in the area according to the network card model before proceeding.
