After the computer room was inspected, it was discovered that most link failures were not broken optical cables, but dirty patch panel ports, incorrectly inserted jumpers, or labels falling off. Ending and daily maintenance boil down to three things: end surface cleaning, plugging and unplugging habits, and label management.
When it comes to end quality, look at the end face first, then talk about insertion loss.
An invisible dust spot on the connector end face is enough to increase insertion loss or even scratch the ceramic ferrule. The standard practice is to blow and then wipe before plugging in, use dust-free paper dipped in alcohol to clean in one direction, and use a 30x microscope or electronic terminal inspection instrument to view the end face of important links. The insertion loss of a qualified pair of movable connectors is generally within 0.3 dB, and the LC/UPC return loss is usually not less than 50 dB. After the termination is completed, measure it port by port and keep the bottom.
Plugging and unplugging habits determine port life
To pull out a jumper, pinch the latch first and then pull it out straight along the axis. Pulling it diagonally or pulling the wire body itself will pull out the ferrule and cause slight wear. If the adapter is left vacant for a long time, it must be covered with a dust cap. The flipping operation is performed according to the port comparison table to avoid changing the wiring based on memory. See the model number clearly when hopping between different interfaces, for exampleLC-LC single mode dual core jumper and LC-FC single mode dual core jumperThey cannot be forcibly interchanged. FC scenarios mostly appear on test and transmission equipment.
The logo should last three years
A label is affixed to each end of the jumper 5 to 10 cm from the head. Machine-printed lamination and handwritten flags will not last more than a year; the port numbers on the side of the patch panel correspond to the jumper numbers one-to-one, and the ledger will be updated on the day of the wiring change. The person who takes over the operation and maintenance in three years will not thank you for guessing correctly, but will only thank you for marking clearly.
EB-LINK factory jumpers are equipped with numbered labels and dust caps on both ends. They are used in conjunction with the port comparison table. For customized maintenance procedures, please contact 0755-83179002.
